Thorsmork Volcano Hike
Thorsmork is one of icelands many beautiful mountain ridges. Named after the Norse God Thór, this stunning and rugged part of the country will take you breath away with its monumental canyons and the foothills of Eyjafjallajokull glacier. To reach this part of the country we will be traveling in an Icelandic supre jeep, a powerful 4x4 jeep driven by a very experienced and knowledgeable driver. while on the way to Thorsmork we will visit the beautiful and pictureque waterfall Seljalandsfoss. Onwards from there we pass by Gígjökull glacier lagoon. Here we will see the results of the destructive force Eyjafjallajökull eploded with in 2010. Causing a massive flood of melt water and small icebergs from the volcanic crater to shred the glacier on the way down and flood the entire surrounding area.
Continuing onwards, we reach our destination the Básar cabin. from here, we will start our 6-8 hour hike up and down the Fimmvörðuháls volcanoes. The ascend is between 700-800 meters. The beautiful hike is approximately 20 km in total. This is the site of the first of two volcanic eruptions in 2010. During the hike you will not only be able to touch the new lava, see the brand new craters, mountains and the now cooling lava falls but also enjoy vast sweeping views of one of the most beautiful highland nature in all of Iceland.

Pick-up from Reykjavík, driver guided super jeep safari, a visit to Seljalandsfoss, glacier gear (if needed) and packed lunch.
Equipment needed
Warm outdoor clothing, waterproof jacket and pants, head wear and gloves. Good hiking shoes are recommended. Hiking boots can be rented for 1.000 ISK up on request
